The General Data Protection Regulations, 2018 (GDPR) ensures your personal and sensitive, confidential data is kept private and held securely, and processed in the way you have agreed to. It is there to protect your rights as a consumer of a service or product that might involve your identifiable data, e.g. your name, email, address, usage data or potentially sensitive information.

The personal information I collect might include your name, address, email address, IP address, and information regarding what pages are accessed and when.

How do you collect my information?

I obtain information about you when you use my website, for example, when you contact me about my books or for a speaking or media appearance, or to join my mailing lists to receive my newsletter.

I also ask you for additional consent to be contacted via my newsletter and to inform you of upcoming events. You have to separately consent to be contacted in this way and can withdraw this consent at any time. Your details for the newsletter and email addresses are kept in a password-protected laptop and on the industry-standard secure email-marketing platform, Wix Ascent.

How is my information used?

We may use your information to:

• dealing with entries into a competition;

• seek your views or comments on the products I provide;

• notify you of changes to my products;

• send you communications that you have requested and that may be of interest to you. These may include information about new books and events I will be attending or hosting.

I review the data and retention periods for personal information on a regular basis. I will hold your personal information on my systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity, or until you request for your records to be deleted.

What if I don’t want my records to be held for that long? 

Under the GDPR you can make a request in writing to me, for all your records to be deleted. In this case data such as emails would be permanently deleted from the devices they are stored on, however, I am required to save the request for deletion you made but would not save any other data.

What if I need to update my details?

Under the GDPR you can make a request in writing to me, for your records to be update or corrected.

Who has access to my data?

I will not sell or rent your information to third parties.

I will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
